Address Canvassing Activities
The US Census Bureau is gearing up for the big 2010 Census count – where over 300 million Americans will be counted. In preparation for mailing out the Census Questionnaires, the U.S. Census Bureau is updating its address list of the nation’s approximately 130 million housing units.

The Census Bureau conducts Address Canvassing to update its address and map database, ensuring that it is accurate and current. The Census Bureau will use the updated addresses from the Address Canvassing to deliver questionnaires to every address.

This Address Canvassing operation is now underway throughout California.  You may see Census workers in your neighborhood carrying hand-held computers.  These confidential and secure GPS-equipped hand-held computers are used to verify, add, and delete addresses.

This work will ensure that the census address list is complete so that everyone can be counted in the 2010 Census. An accurate address list ensures that every household receives a Census questionnaire in 2010.

Background Information
In less than one year the United States will undertake the largest peacetime mobilization in history - the U.S. Census.  On April 1, 2010 the U.S. Census Bureau will count every person living in the United States – about 300 million people.

Our country and our City are already gearing up for this huge task. This counting – called the Decennial Census – is mandated by the United States Constitution and must be done every 10 years.

The information collected in the Census not only serves as the basis for our representation in Congress, it also provides valuable information about our country, our state and our city.

The Census provides important information about Burbank and the people who live here. This information helps us provide the necessary services that every Burbank resident enjoys and that help to make Burbank such a wonderful place to live and work.
