Bicycle Master Plan Adopted
December 9, 2003
What is the Bicycle Master Plan?
Bicycle travel is an important, environmentally-friendly transportation alternative for both commuting and
recreation that also serves as an easy method to reduce traffic congestion. To promote bicycle travel, the
City of Burbank created a Bicycle Master Plan to encourage bicycling and ensure that adequate facilities
are maintained within the City to serve bicycle riders of all ages and skill sets. The City recognizes that
a safe and effective bikeway network enhances the quality of life for residents and visitors to the City.
The Bicycle Master Plan serves as a policy document to guide the development and maintenance of a bicycle
network, support facilities, and other programs for Burbank over the next 20 years. These policies address
important issues related to the City's bikeways, such as planning, community involvement, utilization of
existing resources, facility design, multi-modal integration, safety education, support facilities, as well
as specific programs, implementation, maintenance, and funding. Also the Bicycle Master Plan allows the City to become eligible for annual state funding opportunities for bicycle projects.
